Lloyd’s veteran Graham White passes away

The veteran London market figure and former Lloyd’s deputy chairman Graham White has passed away.

White occupied a variety of senior market roles – and latterly non-executive positions – throughout a long career in the Lloyd’s market which included stints at a number of Lloyd’s agencies and Willis.

His distinguished career included a stint at Argenta before his retirement from the company in 2017.

This period involved senior roles at the members agent including as managing director of Argenta Private Capital and as managing director of Argenta Syndicate Management Limited.

A popular figure, he was admired for his intelligence and good humour together with an ability to find consensus and mediate disagreements. These were attributes that combined to great success during a long stint as Lloyd’s deputy chairman, operating alongside Lord Levene and then John Nelson.

Despite what in many respects was an establishment career, White’s sense of fun and willingness to challenge convention at times was never far away. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.

In a tribute following White’s passing, Argenta said: “We at Argenta were saddened to learn of the death of Graham White on Wednesday 21 June. Charismatic and popular with clients and colleagues at Argenta, Graham was equally well known and liked across the Lloyd’s Market.”

“We are sure that our clients will join with us in offering their thoughts and condolences to his family and his many friends, in and out of the London insurance market,” concluded Argenta.

White most recently served as non-executive director at Stubben Edge, whose CEO Chris Kenning paid tribute saying: “Graham knew everyone in the market and when someone mentioned his name you saw a smile light up on their face.

“He was universally liked, respected and generous. We will miss his advice massively but his company even more so. What a man.”
