Convex names Simons Bermuda CEO and Chandler group deputy CUO reinsurance

Convex has strengthened its reinsurance executive committee with the appointments of Paul Simons as Bermuda CEO and Christophe Chandler as group deputy CUO for reinsurance.

The appointments are effective from 1 January 2024. Both Simons and Chandler will report to Matt Paskin, Convex group CUO for reinsurance and chairman of the reinsurance executive committee.

Simons, who has over 25 years of Bermuda reinsurance experience, joined Convex in 2022 as deputy CEO of Bermuda.

Before Convex he was CEO of Bermuda reinsurance at Axa XL, having previously held a number of leadership roles at XL Catlin and XL Re in Bermuda.

Chandler, formerly head of specialty, London at XL Catlin, joined Convex in 2019 to head up specialty reinsurance.

His more than 25-year insurance career also includes stints as Catlin Bermuda CUO, underwriting director for Catlin Re Switzerland, and roles at both Catlin Syndicate and Cox Syndicate.

On the appointments, Paskin said: “Convex places stability at the forefront of our client offering. We are delighted for Paul and Christophe and I look forward to working with them both as well as Roy and Rich, and the rest of our excellent reinsurance team.”

Both Simons and Chandler join Paskin on Convex’s reinsurance executive committee. The remaining two positions on the committee are held by Roy Foster, UK CUO reinsurance, and Richard Slater, Bermuda CUO reinsurance.
