Starr Companies has hired Emilio Iacobelli to spearhead its growth in the Latin American casualty insurance market.
Iacobelli has been appointed vice president, regional casualty manager at Starr, according to LinkedIn. He has joined the company from Allied World where he most recently served as vice president, general casualty.
Prior to joining Allied World in 2014, Iacobelli spent two decades with AIG, with his final role with the company being vice president for casualty in Latin America. He had first joined AIG in 1992.
This publication understands that Iacobelli has been tasked with building out Starr’s general liability offering in Latin America. The company already has a presence in the financial lines segment, with underwriters in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. However, it has not had a general liability platform in Latin America but with Iacobelli’s arrival, Starr will now look to establish a foothold in this sector within the region.
In joining Starr’s Latin American operation, Iacobelli will team up with fellow AIG alumnus Dorian Grey who serves as the company’s president for Latin America.
Grey joined Starr back in 2016, tasked with the growth and profitability of the company’s activities in Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
