Broker Miller has appointed former AmTrust marine director Peter Townsend to grow its North American marine portfolio.
Townsend will take up his new role in January and will focus on a range of marine lines, including hull and machinery, protection and indemnity, transport liabilities, war risks, cargo and stock throughput cover.
Townsend was previously AmTrust at Lloyd’s director of marine until the carrier wound down its book in June 2018, in a move first revealed by The Insurer.
Townsend joined Amtrust at Lloyd’s in November 2015.
Prior to this, he was head of London marine at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.
“Townsend brings a wealth of marine experience,” to Miller, the broker said, pointing towards his service as chairman of the London Market Joint Hull Committee and a member of both the Lloyd’s Marine Association and the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) Ocean Hull Committee.
Phil Wheeler, head of marine, commented: “We believe Peter’s experience and expertise in the marine insurance industry will enhance Miller’s proposition for our clients.
“His invaluable technical input, built up over a number of years, will further strengthen the Miller team and support our aim of providing an unrivalled service to our clients.”
