Irish budget council warns of “very large contingent liability” from future climate claims

The Irish government has been warned by its budgetary watchdog of “potentially a very large contingent liability” emerging from the insurance industry, with large claims tied to extreme weather events possibly impacting long-term fiscal sustainability and even requiring state intervention.
